Florida lawn care
Florida lawn care: find your grass, plan mowing and seasonal repairs, and check watering, soil and local growing conditions before treating a patch.
Start a Florida plan with location, cultivar and lawn age
Florida’s St. Augustine cultivars differ in mowing and site requirements, and UF/IFAS separates north, central and south Florida conditions. Save the grass identity before choosing a plan. The three plans below address existing lawns, rather than recommending one grass throughout the state.
- Grass identity
Keep the seed or sod supplier’s information. A generic seed bag is not a matching replacement for every lawn.
Choose a compatible repair- Current growth
Write down recent mowing and the local conditions. One warm afternoon does not establish a full summer routine.
Check growth before changing the cut- New or established
Record the planting date and rooting progress. A new sod patch needs an establishment check before copying the rest of the lawn’s water routine.
Check a newly laid patch
